Please visit the link below the picture for the most recent stats package published by the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver. I'm frequently analyze the Home Price Index Chart found on pages 3 and 4. The numbers shed some light on longer term trends, but also how the market has performed in the short run.
The chart is broken down into several categories which include single family, townhome, apartment and residential composite (all 3 combined). I often get asked where 1/2 duplexes fit in and I would argue they track closer to single family homes than townhomes. This is due to the fact they have a land component and no maintenance fee.
The graph at the end provides a visual representation for real estate growth in Vancouver since 1977. I think it's safe to say real estate investing can offer consumers steady returns and stable long-term growth.
